HOUSE DISTRICT 84
MEET KYLER
A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP
A proud Memphis native, Kyler Gilkey is running to bring fresh leadership, experience, and results-driven solutions to the Tennessee House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Memphis, Kyler earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice, setting the foundation for a career dedicated to public service and legislative advocacy.
Kyler began his journey in public service as a legislative fellow in the Memphis City Attorney's Office, where he conducted extensive research on city ordinances and cost recovery measures to strengthen local government operations. He went on to serve Congressman Steve Cohen of Memphis in multiple roles, both in Washington, D.C. and in the district. As a Staff Assistant in Congressman Cohen’s Washington office, Kyler managed the office’s internship program, hiring and mentoring dozens of young professionals who went on to full-time positions on Capitol Hill. In addition, Kyler supported key legislative efforts in housing, education, and agriculture—helping draft and introduce bills and resolutions aligned with the Congressman’s agenda.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HARDWORK
In 2023, Kyler joined the office of Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, representing California’s 37th District, as her Legislative Assistant. In this role, he has managed a wide-ranging portfolio covering housing, financial services, health care, education, transportation and infrastructure, small business, and labor. He has worked directly on legislation supporting foster youth, renters' rights, labor protections, and infrastructure investments preparing Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics. Through his leadership in the federal appropriations process, Kyler helped secure approximately $40 million in funding for projects in both Memphis and Los Angeles, including housing improvements, safer transportation systems, and youth development programs.
Beyond his official duties, Kyler has demonstrated a deep commitment to empowering the next generation of Black leaders. He served for two years as Secretary of the Congressional Black Associates, an organization dedicated to advancing the political, economic, and professional development of Black staffers on Capitol Hill.

FIGHTING FOR MEMPHIS. READY TO SERVE.
In 2024, Kyler was elected by the Tennessee Democratic Party to serve as an At-Large Delegate for the Democratic National Convention in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. That same year, he was recognized with the Memphis Urban Professional “Changemaker 40 Under 40” award for his continued leadership and service.
Now, Kyler Gilkey is running for the Tennessee House of Representatives to fight for strong schools, safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, and economic opportunities that lift up every Tennessean. With a track record of real results at the federal level, Kyler is ready to deliver for the people of Tennessee.
